The documentation and recovery of traditional building systems forms an essential part of the conservation of the architectural heritage. Knowledge of these systems is required in order to maintain, conserve and restore the historic building stock. A range of data can be analysed and obtained from the recording of historic structures: the types and sources of materials, traditional building skills, and methods of construction.
