Opéra de Lyon is a leading theatre on the French and international opera scene. Its director since 2003, Serge Dorny has developed Lyon Opera’s tradition for artistic excellence and accessibility: innovative staging, broad repertoire from the baroque to the contemporary. The artists invited include the brightest talents – whether emerging or established: the conductors Kirill Petrenko, William Christie, Jérémie Rhorer, Stefano Montanari, Daniele Rustioni… and Kazushi Ono, music director; the directors Alex Ollé/La Fura dels Baus, Olivier Py, Laurent Pelly, David Marton, Christophe Honoré, etc.
Projekt: Circular Economy in the Performing Arts
Inspired by experiences of the building industry, the project’s concept is simple: it is about designing and constructing opera and theatre sets like banks of materials (see for example the 20I20 Park in Amsterdam). It could also concern cinema industry if we find proper partners. This is an innovative project leading to a change of model and implying cross-sector skills and partnerships.
The project is quite ambitious and complex. It would be implemented over about 3 years or seasons. The phases could approximately be as follows (to be further detailed):
1. 2018/2019: modelling of design, construction processes and other processes such as assembly & dismantling, storage, etc.,
2. 2019/2020: testing in sets workshops,
3. 2020/2021: corrections-improvements and implementation on a few opera & theatre productions.
Depending on how it works, partial tests on productions could already take place at phase n°2.
We would like to collaborate with architects, school of architectures, universities of technology, research centers, building corporations, operas, theaters, cinema producers.
