Project: Musica Mediterranova

Musica Mediterranova is a project that aims to stimulate inter-cultural dialogue and the musical collaboration between the youth of Mediterranean countries based on a modern interpretation of traditional music with the usage of new media and technology. The project consists of the different phases such as education, productions, presentations and informal networking. Duration of the project is 1.5 years. On the metaphoric level, the project is based on the myth of the Argonauts and the search for the Golden Fleece, which in this case symbolizes a new musical expression, while the trip of the Argonauts across different cultures and countries symbolise the benefits of the intercultural dialogue and respect for other cultures. Music style (electro remix of traditional Mediterranean music) would be based on adding new specific elements from different traditional musical styles the Mediterranean including the Two-part singing and playing in the Istrian scale which has been included in Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO since 2009. Collaboration would be based on bridging the existing genres and ethnic boundaries, but also mobility of the artists. The project takes place in Istria (Croatia), but with the possibility that the presentation and collaboration takes place in the whole Mediterranean area. Project duration is from June 2012 until December 2013.

The phases of the project are following:
– Phase 1: project preparation and selection of candidates, from June till August 2012.
– Phase 2: education, from October 2012 till May 2013.
– Phase 3: production, from 10th – 20th June 2013.
– Phase 4: presentation, 21th and 22th of June 2013.
