The project explores creative ways for urban requalification, linking the latter to social, economic and environmental issues that may have an impact on the sustainability of urban areas, including questions of social exclusion. The activities focus on public space and foster intercultural dialogue between European artists and operators of the creative sector that belong to various disciplinary horizons. In collaboration with the local administration and (eventually) and associated partner, each partner will select a series of problematic urban areas. The neglected urban areas will become laboratories for experimenting artistic and creative approaches to urban requalification. A program of residencies will develop innovative and inclusive outputs, exploring one of these axes:
1) artistic installations and public space: contextual creativity;
2) sustainable urban design: between new techniques and local crafts;
3) urban agriculture and participative architecture: new forms of green spaces through a multifunctional practice (social, didactic, productive, therapeutic, environmental value).

The objectives are:
– explore the common European challenges in overcoming the dualism between urban and rural;
– promote

The methodology and activity program:
– preliminary research and documentation on European urban policies in requalification through sustainable strategies; creative and artistic trends in the 3 axes; best practices in creative, inclusive and innovative approaches to urban requalification; cultural programs and activities linked to the 3 axes (past, present and future ECoCs).
– conception and organization of the residencies: mapping of the problematic local urban areas; preparation of material for future participants; building of the call for proposals and selection procedures; calendar of activities.
– Realization of the residencies: exploratory phase; creative phase; implementation; inauguration.
– follow-up of the residencies: website, documentary, publication
– organization of conference + exhibition for large public

The results will be disseminated through different activities:
– a website
– a documentary
– a publication
– a final conference in Bruxelles on the 3 axes: experts of the domain and representatives of ECOCs that have been working on them (Maribor 2012, Umea 2014, Sonderborg 2017)
– an exhibition in Bruxelles thought for the large public
– the circulation of the creations in the circuits they belong to (Salone del Mobile, London Design Week)
