Project: IN SITU 2009/2013Located in the northern suburbs of Marseilles, Lieux publics, the National Centre for the Creation, accompanies artists from all disciplines who make the city the place, the object and the subject of their creations.

Its raison d’être focuses on a fundamental theme – new urban writing. It has created a series of complementary measures based on three main concepts: the European dimension at the heart of the project, a place of national reference for creation and research and a role of invention and action in its specific territory.

Lieux publics is the leader of IN SITU, the European network supporting the creation of works, with co-organisers located in Valladolid (Spain), Graz (Austria), Oerol (Netherlands), Glasgow (Scotland) and Sotteville-lès-Rouen (France). Every year, 3 original projects are created on a European theme. In 2006, IN SITU was joined by 11 new partners throughout Europe (Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, etc.) and in France (Culturesfrance, La Villette, Pronomades, Chalon-sur-Saône, Angers). The “Temps des Arts de la Rue” highlights its gradual development towards becoming a European Production Centre for new urban composition.

IN SITU network was created in 2003 with the aim of providing artists with tools to create shows for public areas and destined to tour throughout Europe and beyond. Supported by the European commission (Culture 2000 programme) IN SITU supports artists from the very conception of their projects to the tour phase of the show, thereby accompanying all the different phases of the artistic project.
