About the organisation:
CELJE – CITY OF ART & CULTURE It is not easy to find a city in Europe which still lives with remarkable history of ancient and medieveal times. Explore the city of Celje and its surroundings on your own or choose a guided tour. MUST SEE attractions: CELEIA town underneath the town – walk through the the underground Roman town “in situ”” (Celje was called TROJA SECUNDA in Roman times and had 10.000 inhabitants), THE OLD CASTLE CELJE -meet the knights and their medieval lifestyle sharing the history of famous Counts of Celje. THE OLD CITY CENTRE offers variety of cultural activities (museums, galleries) as well as culinary and shopping opportunities.

From the establishment in 2001 our organisation has expanded and made visible results in the tourism and cultural area which contributed also to the development of cultural area – that is why today we also cover the cultural area of Municipality of Celje and we manage following infrastructure as well as human resources: Gallery of contemporary art, Gallery Račka (Duck), Gallery ART SALOON, project “Artist in residence“, CELJE HOUSE (built as GERMAN HOUSE) where we operate and market the 3 conference halls for different purposes: concerts, education, press-conferences. Under our management are also following cultural heritage sights – THE OLD CASTLE CELJE with TOURIST INFO CENTER on the castle, magnificent cultural heritage – a dominant feature of Celje. It is the only castle in Slovenia offering LIVING HISTORY on weekend from April-October to its visitors. We have our own animation re-enactment groups which share the secret of medieval life to our visitors. Yearly visitors on castle – up to 70.000. In last three years our management has been successful in attracting other municipalities in destination management models – we operate as expanded to being also a REGIONAL DESTINATION ORGANISATION “ THE LAND OF CELJE “ covering 21 municipalities with objective – promotion of tourist and cultural offer in the region. We have visible experiences in EU projects, as well as applicants and as partners. We can send you a list.

In last years we concentrate on programmes with LIVING HISTORY concepts to promote our rich cultural and historical heritage therefor we believe we can act as PARTNER ORGANISATION to many different themes under CREATIVE EUROPE programme. Our organisation is public Authority established and financed by our Municipality of Celje with mission to implement following activities:
– preparing the strategic documents for the tourism and cultural area;
– promotion of tourism and cultural activities;
– support in marketing and technical activities for better promotion of overall tourist and cultural offer;
– event management for the main city activities;
– development initiatives within the area;
– information support for the domestic and foreign visitors;
– co-creation of Slovene tourism strategy on national level.
