Project: Valorisation and Conservation of the Fishing HeritageDuring the past decades, coastal fishing communities have been undergoing a strong period of structural changes, which are a challenge for their future (globalisation, introduction of new techniques, fisheries crisis…).

Some of these communities got to overcome these problems by means of the modernisation and adaptation to the new fishery market, while others were not able to suitably face this new situation and find themselves in the middle of a situation of socio-economic crisis.

In both cases, the heritage linked to fishing, past and present, is falling into disuse and is at serious risk of being forgotten and lost (traditions, architecture, boats, fishing arts, jobs, environment knowledge…). This will mean the loss of an important part of the European cultural heritage, vital heritage and way of life for many citizens and societies during centuries.
