Five finalists for the 2017 EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture

The European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe have announced Kannikegården (DK), Ely Court (UK), deFlat Kleiburg (NL), Rivesaltes Memorial Museum (FR) and Katyn Museum (PL) to compete for the 2017 Prize.

The EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture  – Mies van der Rohe Award is a biennial award to recognise and reward excellent examples of architectural works, and is complemented by the Emerging Architect Special Mention, awarded to a single architectural work.

The European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe have announced in Barcelona on 15 February the five finalists, which will compete for the 2017 Prize.

* Kannikegården in Ribe by Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects
* Ely Court in London by Alison Brooks Architects
* deFlat Kleiburg in Amsterdam by NL Architects in XVW architectuur
* Rivesaltes Memorial Museum in France by Rudy Ricciotti (Bandol)
* Katyn Museum in Warsaw by BBGK Architekci

The five finalist were presented in Ljubljana at the opening of the Future Architecture platform Matchmaking conference (16 February) by Anna Ramos, director Fundació Mies van der Rohe and Hughes Becquart, policy officer at the European Commission – DG EAC.

The Prize Winner and the Emerging Architect Winner will be announced in Brussels on May 16. The Award Ceremony will take place on 26 May 2017 at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona.

Two novelties…

1. Award Ceremony in Barcelona (26 May) will be organized in the context of a series of debates and conferences, oriented to all audiences. There will also be the presentation of the publication with all nominated projects for the 2017 Prize, the exhibition and evening celebration open to everybody.

2. Between 20 and 28 May, the four finalist works, the Winner and the Emerging Architect buildings will be open to public to visit and know in situ the works, the architects and other people involved in the organization of the Prize.
